How often should a business post on social media?

2 min read
Short answer

Pick a rhythm you can keep up for a year. For most businesses that is two or three posts a week on the channel where your customers are. One good post about your work does more than five posts with nothing to say. After a month, look at which posts bring in replies or enquiries and make more of those.

There is no magic number. Every platform keeps changing its rules, and what works for a hairdresser doesn't work for an accountant.

Consistency beats frequency

A page with a post every day for three weeks and then nothing for two months looks abandoned. Two posts a week for a year builds more.

Pick one channel first

Business customers are more often on LinkedIn, consumers on Instagram, Facebook or TikTok. Do one channel well before you start a second.

What you post

Show your work. A job you've finished, a question you're often asked, something that went wrong and what you learned from it. That is more interesting than a day-of-the-week graphic.

Measure what it brings in

Likes are nice; enquiries pay the bills. Ask new customers how they found you, and look at which posts bring people to your site.
